Assumptions Prior to this training

So I understood a few things between the last session and this one. My focus at the end of the last session was on the way I rotate my hips.

And so what I wanted to test is the assumption that the rotation of my hips happen too early in the downswing. And also, I didn’t shift my weight enough to my left foot during the downswing.

So I find a move to delay as much as I can my hip rotation as well as shifting my weight to the left much more than what I am used to.

The move is basically having the feel to step both heel to the left during the transition.

During the session

  • Validation of my assumption

So yeah, I really like the transition regarding the lower body. My hips are back to the center. The weight shift is well initiated.

The only thing is about my upper body. My backswing is a bit too long. But that’s details, which I will focus on improving over time.

Also, there is the fact that my head is moving a bit too much forward. I would really like to keep it quiet, especially with the driver.

Now at impact, I am more over my left side. Which is great. But still my legs are not that extended that what I would like.

I think there is a correlation between that, my backswing and the fact that my head is moving too far forward. I think all those things are linked.

So I will investigate that in order to find a solution for the next session.

  • Specific Feeling I got

This way of swinging the club differs from what I am used to. So the understanding of what cause the ball to go left and right took a bit of time .

But at some point I got it.

Basically, once the transition is over, using the magic move I have implemented during this session, I need to move my left hip toward the target as the same time as I move my right hip forward.

Which causes the delay of my hips rotation and brings the club more inside.

So when I did it perfectly I was hitting nice straight or little draw, and whenever I fail doing it I was pushing the ball.

For me, which has the habit of turning my hip too early, I really need to keep shifting my weight to the left as I’m starting the downswing. In order to keep the club inside and hit the ball straight.

That’s a different feeling come from the sensation of really pulling the club all the way down. Which feel weird.

  • For the missing lag

But even if things look good. If I took the image of the pro player of last time and myself of this session:

I am lacking a lot of lag. And what we can see as a major difference is the shoulders.

At this point he has the shoulders still completely parallel to the ground, where mine are already opening up.

So in addition of delaying my hips rotation during the downswing. I probably also need to delay my shoulders rotation in order to create more lag.

Also, there is a lot more separation between his shoulder and hip than to me. But I think this could also be linked to the things I talked about early, of keeping my head more behind and quiet, as well as having a shorter backswing. But I wouldn’t bet anything on that one, I might be wrong.

Some things I need to think through also for next time.

Conclude for next time

Let’s recap the things to figure out for next time:

  1. Shorter backswing with a more extended left arm
  2. Keep my head more behind the ball during the transition
  3. Delaying my shoulder rotation on the way down to create more lag

Let’s get IT!
